Pakistan’s position in the ICC Test team rankings has come under further pressure after their defeat to England in the opening Test of the three-match series at Headingley.
Pakistan are currently placed eighth with 1,427 rating points, while Sri Lanka occupy seventh position with 1,222 points. Although Pakistan remain ahead of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh’s impressive rise has pushed both teams down the rankings.
The national side suffered a heavy defeat against England, losing the first Test by an innings and 103 runs. Pakistan found themselves trailing by 238 runs after the first innings before being bowled out for 135 in their second attempt.
The result gave England a convincing victory and placed Pakistan under pressure heading into the remaining two matches of the series.
Bangladesh Reach Historic Sixth Position
Bangladesh were the biggest beneficiaries of the latest changes in the ICC Test rankings, climbing three places to reach sixth position — the highest ranking in their Test cricket history.
Their rise followed a remarkable tour of Australia, where Bangladesh drew the Test series 1-1.
The visitors also achieved a historic milestone by recording their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in the opening Test at Marrara Stadium, a result that played a major role in their climb up the rankings.
Australia, despite the series setback, retained the number one position in the ICC Test team rankings. South Africa remain second, followed by New Zealand in third place.
India and England are ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
Pakistan Bottom of World Test Championship Table
Pakistan’s difficulties have not been limited to the ICC Test rankings.
The defeat against England has also pushed the team to the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings.
Pakistan currently have a points percentage of 19.05, having won just two of their seven matches while suffering five defeats.

The WTC standings are determined primarily by points percentage, making every Test result important regardless of the number of matches played by different teams.
Pakistan’s position reflects a difficult campaign so far, with the team struggling to convert competitive performances into victories.
Australia Continue to Lead WTC Standings
Australia remain at the top of the WTC 2025-27 table after an impressive start to the competition.
The Australian team have won eight of their 10 Test matches and lost two, earning 96 points with a points percentage of 80.00.
Defending champions South Africa are placed second. They have won three of their four matches, collecting 36 points with a points percentage of 75.00.
Pakistan, meanwhile, will now look to improve both their ranking and WTC position during the remainder of the England series. The next two Tests will provide an important opportunity for the side to respond after the disappointing opening defeat.
With Bangladesh making history and the competition at the top remaining intense, Pakistan will need stronger performances to avoid falling further behind in both the ICC Test rankings and the World Test Championship standings.
