Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached New York late Monday ahead of his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is scheduled to present Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and international issues.
The prime minister is set to address the 81st session of the UNGA on September 25. According to the Foreign Office, he will discuss the Kashmir dispute and the situation in Palestine during his speech.
He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit.
Pakistan’s priorities at UNGA
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz will outline Pakistan’s priorities on sustainable development, climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges.
He is also expected to discuss reform of the United Nations and issues facing countries in the Global South.
During the visit, the prime minister will participate in several high-level events and hold bilateral meetings with international leaders and senior UN officials.
PM Shehbaz to raise Kashmir, Palestine issues in UNGA address
The Foreign Office said Shehbaz will highlight Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, the UN Charter, regional peace and international cooperation.
The prime minister is also expected to present Pakistan’s position on regional and global developments while emphasising dialogue, diplomacy, restraint and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and senior government officials.
The 81st UNGA session is being held under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
The high-level general debate is scheduled from September 22 to 26, with a final sitting planned for September 28.
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s address is scheduled for September 25.
His visit comes as the UNGA’s high-level session gets underway in New York, with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East expected to feature prominently in discussions among world leaders.
