The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) will return for its 12th edition from March 18 to May 2, 2027, with all eight franchises set to compete for the championship, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Thursday.

The tournament will retain its expanded eight-team format for a second consecutive season after the 2026 edition marked a major milestone for the league with the introduction of its first player auction and record attendance for the final.

Peshawar Zalmi won the 2026 title after defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets at Gaddafi Stadium on May 3, ending a nine-year wait for the championship.

PSL 12 preparations underway

The PSL Governing Council finalised the 2027 tournament window following consultations with franchise owners and other representatives during a meeting in London on September 1.

With the dates now confirmed, attention will shift to squad formation and other preparations ahead of the tournament.

Key milestones will include direct signings, player retentions, the trade window and the player auction. Further details regarding the auction process and other preparations are expected to be announced by the PCB in due course.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the league would seek to build on the success of the previous season and raise its standards further.

“HBL PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of, with thrilling moments that had the whole nation transfixed, record crowds and record broadcasts,” Naqvi said.

“HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar further.”

PCB aims to maintain PSL momentum

PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer said the expanded 2026 edition had changed expectations surrounding the tournament and that the league would seek to maintain that momentum in 2027.

“Last season changed what people expect from this league and we intend to meet every one of those expectations in 2027,” Naseer said.

The 2027 edition will therefore mark the second consecutive season with eight teams, giving the league an expanded competitive structure following the addition of two new franchises.

The PCB is expected to announce further details about the match schedule, venues, player auction and ticketing arrangements ahead of the tournament.

With the tournament window now confirmed, franchises will begin preparations for squad building as they look to challenge defending champions Peshawar Zalmi for the PSL 12 title.
