Muzaffarabad: A tragic accident occurred in Jhelum Valley district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where a school van skidded off a mountainous road and fell into a deep ravine. The van was carrying at least 29 students from a private school, out of which more than 25 were injured.
According to police officials, the incident took place near the Chakar area of Jhelum Valley. Initial reports suggest that the van lost control while navigating a sharp turn at high speed, causing it to plunge into the ravine. The injured children were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where the condition of three is reported to be critical.
SSP Jhelum Valley, Mirza Zahid, confirmed that the van driver, identified as Sajjad Shah, was also among the injured. The students onboard were between the ages of 6 and 12.
Police and rescue teams quickly responded to the scene and carried out rescue operations. Local residents also actively participated in the relief efforts.
It is worth noting that such school van accidents are not uncommon in the hilly regions of Azad Kashmir. Poor road conditions, outdated vehicles, and untrained drivers are often to blame, highlighting the urgent need for effective safety measures and strict regulations.
