Landslides and Floods Block Fairy Meadows Road, Tourists Await Rescue

Heavy rains suspend helicopter service as rescue efforts face obstacles in Northern Pakistan

Fairy Meadows Road has been blocked due to landslides and flash floods triggered by severe weather conditions, leaving numerous tourists stranded and awaiting rescue.

According to local authorities, the helicopter service—usually deployed for emergency rescues—has been temporarily suspended due to unfavorable weather, while ground operations to evacuate people are actively underway.

The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) teams have reached the affected zones. Meanwhile, Pakistan Army and other emergency services are assisting in the search and rescue of missing individuals.

In related developments, Chilas Road has also been closed due to landslides, and a section of the Karakoram Highway at Thor Maniyar has been temporarily shut down as well.

In a positive turn, more than 500 tourists trapped on the Lake Saif-ul-Malook road in Kaghan were successfully rescued during a major operation yesterday. The road was blocked due to a cloudburst-triggered landslide, but timely action by the Kaghan Development Authority helped prevent greater loss.

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of more rainfall and potential landslides, urging both locals and travelers to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas.
