Electricity Prices May Drop Nationwide — NEPRA Hearing Set for August 4

Consumers Could Receive Over Rs. 53 Billion in Relief as CPPAG Requests Tariff Reduction

ISLAMABAD: Great news for electricity consumers across Pakistan — a significant drop in electricity prices is expected, with the potential decrease of up to Rs. 1.75 per unit.

According to reports, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has officially submitted a request to NEPRA under the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024–25. If approved, the proposed reduction could provide consumers with a massive relief of over Rs. 53.39 billion, marking a positive development for households already struggling with inflation.

The proposed adjustment will apply to all government-owned DISCOs, including K-Electric, meaning the benefits will be felt across the entire country.

NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) has scheduled a public hearing on August 4, after which the final decision on the price reduction will be announced.

Interestingly, if NEPRA approves further adjustments for the months of September, October, and November, the per-unit relief could go even higher — up to Rs. 2.10 per unit, offering additional financial relief to consumers.

This adjustment comes under NEPRA’s regular quarterly tariff reviews and is being seen as a welcome relief in the backdrop of rising inflation — similar to a recent electricity price drop proposed in June 2025, which also aimed to ease the burden on power consumers.
