KP Launches High-Tech Lab to Detect Donkey, Buffalo, or Cow Meat

New food testing lab aims to stop sale of harmful or illegal meat sold as halal

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has taken a major step against the sale of harmful and illegal meat disguised as halal meat by launching a modern food testing laboratory. The lab can identify the true source of meat within seconds using advanced scientific tools.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, the new lab is not limited to meat testing alone. It can also test milk, water, spices, beverages, and other food items using scientific methods.

The facility is equipped with global-standard machines such as FTIR, HPLC, and UHPLC. These devices can quickly detect food adulteration and identify the animal source of the meat, offering fast and accurate results.

Officials say the main goal is to ensure the public gets clean, quality, and halal food. With the help of this lab, it will now be easier to spot and stop the sale of harmful or non-halal meat.

It’s important to note that in recent weeks, there were multiple reports from Lahore, Islamabad, and other cities where donkey meat was being sold illegally. One such case was recently exposed in the capital — a donkey meat scam busted in Islamabad, which raised serious health and religious concerns. This created widespread public concern.
