Pakistan’s Central Bank Extends Banking Hours for Hajj 2025 Applications

State Bank directs authorised branches to open on Saturdays to facilitate pilgrims

Special Banking Arrangements for Hajj Applicants

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced special measures to assist citizens applying for Hajj 2025. In a move aimed at maximizing convenience, the central bank has instructed all authorized bank branches across the country to remain open on Saturdays during the application period.

This decision follows a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, which sought to ensure easier access for prospective pilgrims. By keeping branches open on weekends, authorities hope to accommodate applicants who may be unable to visit banks during regular weekday hours.

Saturday Banking Timings

According to the SBP, 14 authorized banks have been directed to operate on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. The extended service hours will allow more people to submit their forms and payments without the pressure of weekday schedules.

Bank officials say that Saturday openings are particularly beneficial for residents of remote areas, where travel to the nearest branch can be time-consuming. Additionally, working professionals will have an extra day to complete the process without missing work.

Application Windows for Registered and Unregistered Pilgrims

The SBP clarified that authorized banks will accept Hajj application forms from 4 August to 9 August 2025 for registered pilgrims.
Meanwhile, unregistered pilgrims will be able to submit their applications and required payments between 11 August and 16 August 2025.

This separation of application windows is intended to streamline processing and ensure smoother handling of documentation. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has urged applicants to submit their forms as early as possible within the given dates to avoid last-minute delays.

Why the Extra Days Matter

Pakistan is among the largest contributors of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj each year. In 2024, over 180,000 Pakistanis performed the pilgrimage under both government and private schemes. Demand for slots is high, and application processing requires meticulous verification of documents, bank receipts, and travel arrangements.

By extending branch operations to Saturdays, authorities hope to reduce long queues and manage application surges more effectively. This also helps banks in handling the high volume of financial transactions that accompany the process, from application fees to foreign currency arrangements.

Steps for Applicants

The Ministry has advised applicants to carefully review eligibility requirements before submission. These include:

  • Valid computerized national identity card (CNIC)

  • Machine-readable Pakistani passport valid until at least February 2026

  • Proof of payment of the Hajj package cost

  • Completed and signed application form

Applicants are also encouraged to double-check all personal information to prevent delays or rejection.

Broader Context of Hajj Application Management

Managing Hajj applications in Pakistan is a large-scale logistical exercise involving banks, government ministries, and travel operators. Each year, the government allocates a specific quota in coordination with Saudi authorities.

In recent years, digital submission systems have been introduced, but many applicants still prefer in-person banking services, especially in rural areas where internet access is limited. The Saturday banking measure caters to this group, ensuring inclusivity in the process.

Ensuring Equal Access

The SBP’s decision reflects a broader effort by Pakistani authorities to make Hajj accessible to as many citizens as possible. With only a short application window available, even a single extra day can make a difference for thousands of potential pilgrims.

Officials have emphasized that these measures are part of a larger strategy to improve service delivery, reduce waiting times, and provide a smooth start to the spiritual journey for all participants.
