Shahbaz Sharif Contacts Hafiz Naeemur Rehman
Islamabad – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, offering assurances regarding the safe return of Pakistanis detained in Israel. Among those highlighted was former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who was reportedly held in connection with the “Samood Flotilla” incident.
During the conversation, Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s position on Palestine remains clear and unwavering. He called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict and urged international intervention to halt the killing of Palestinians. “Pakistan has always stood with its Palestinian brothers and will continue to do so,” the Prime Minister reaffirmed.
Reiterating Pakistan’s Palestine Policy
Shahbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding policy of supporting an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem (Al-Quds) as its capital. He underscored that Pakistan does not recognize Israel nor maintains diplomatic relations with the state.
The Prime Minister also assured that the government is actively coordinating with the international community and friendly nations to secure the release of Pakistani detainees. “Efforts are ongoing, and we are committed to bringing them safely back to Pakistan as soon as possible,” he said.
Discussion on Kashmir Situation
In addition to the issue of Palestinian detainees, both leaders discussed the current situation in Kashmir. Shahbaz Sharif highlighted that the federal government is actively working to maintain peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiris and ensuring regional security.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman later posted on the social media platform X that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had tasked Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar with overseeing the matter. Rehman also noted that the Prime Minister urged efforts to expedite the release of Mushtaq Ahmed Khan.
Concerns Over Gaza and US Peace Plan
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief stressed the need for Pakistan to continue supporting the establishment of a free and independent Palestinian state. He expressed reservations over former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan, which has drawn criticism from multiple stakeholders in the region.
Economic Development and Investment Initiatives
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif issued directives to relevant ministries to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and encourage international investment. He emphasized the importance of private sector participation and envisioned Pakistan as a regional investment hub.
During a briefing at the meeting, officials provided updates on key sectors including energy, infrastructure, information technology, and industrial projects. Shahbaz Sharif stressed that efficient implementation and facilitation are crucial to attracting investors and achieving sustainable economic growth.
Balancing Foreign Policy and Domestic Priorities
The conversation highlighted Pakistan’s dual focus on international diplomacy and domestic economic development. By addressing both the humanitarian concerns in Palestine and the strategic economic goals at home, the Prime Minister aims to consolidate Pakistan’s global standing while strengthening its internal infrastructure and industrial capacity.
The dialogue between Shahbaz Sharif and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman reflects ongoing efforts by Pakistan’s leadership to assert its foreign policy principles while ensuring national interests are safeguarded. Observers note that proactive engagement in such issues could enhance Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy, particularly in the Middle East and South Asia.
