Party Endorses Constitutional Reform

Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) — commonly known as PML-Q — has officially announced its support for the 27th Constitutional Amendment, pledging full cooperation with the government to promote national reconciliation and institutional stability.

The announcement came after a consultative meeting chaired by Senior Vice President Chaudhry Salik Hussain, during which party leaders discussed the implications of the proposed amendment and the broader goals of constitutional reform.

Strengthening State Institutions

Following the meeting, Chaudhry Salik Hussain told reporters that the PML-Q had decided to extend complete cooperation to the government. He said the party believes the amendment will improve the performance of state institutions and help foster national cohesion.

“Our party stands for the stability of democratic institutions and constitutional continuity, Hussain stated. We believe that constructive engagement with the government is the only way to achieve long-term political stability.

While the government has yet to publicly release the full details of the proposed 27th Amendment, political observers say it focuses on enhancing parliamentary oversight, clarifying institutional powers, and strengthening mechanisms for accountability — long-standing issues in Pakistan’s governance framework.

Meeting with Prime Minister

Hussain also briefed party members on his recent meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which the premier thanked the PML-Q for its cooperation and shared a detailed briefing on the amendment’s key provisions.

According to Hussain, the prime minister assured the PML-Q that the government intends to pursue the reform process through consensus and dialogue, not confrontation.

Commitment to National Interest

During the meeting, PML-Q leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting all initiatives in the national interest, emphasizing the need to strengthen the democratic process and ensure political stability in the country.

Our politics has always been rooted in strengthening institutions, not individuals, Hussain added. We will continue to work with all democratic forces to uphold the constitution and advance the public good.

Context: Political Cooperation Amid Challenges

The PML-Q’s stance comes at a time when Pakistan’s political landscape remains tense, with several opposition parties divided over constitutional and economic reforms. Recently, the Punjab Assembly also submitted a resolution supporting the 27th Constitutional Amendment, reflecting growing provincial backing for the proposed reform. By aligning with the government, the PML-Q — though a smaller parliamentary party — positions itself as a moderate bridge-builder advocating cooperation over confrontation.

Analysts note that this move could help ease partisan tensions and build momentum for broader political consensus, especially as Pakistan faces economic challenges, security concerns, and growing demands for institutional reform.
