Explosion Rocks G-11 Sector in Islamabad
At least 12 people were killed and several others injured in a suicide bombing near the district court in Islamabad’s G-11 sector on Tuesday afternoon. The powerful explosion occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time, sending shockwaves across the city and igniting multiple vehicles parked nearby.
According to initial reports by News Channels, the blast was so intense that it could be heard several kilometers away. Flames engulfed the attacker’s vehicle, and nearby cars were also set ablaze, spreading panic among residents and court visitors.
Police Confirm Suicide Attack
Police officials confirmed that the explosion was a suicide attack, and forensic teams recovered what is believed to be the head of the suspected bomber from the scene. The area has since been cordoned off, with law enforcement and bomb disposal squads conducting detailed searches for additional explosives.
Preliminary investigations suggest that regional militant groups may have been involved. According to Islamabad police, the attack appears to be linked to India-backed and Taliban-affiliated extremist networks, including a faction described as Fitna al-Khawarij. Officials, however, emphasized that a full investigation is underway and no final conclusions have been drawn.
Emergency Declared in Hospitals
Rescue teams and ambulances arrived within minutes, rushing the wounded to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the capital’s largest public hospital. An emergency has been declared to handle the influx of casualties. Hospital officials confirmed that the injured include lawyers, petitioners, and court staff, some of whom are in critical condition.
Security Tightened Across the Capital
In the aftermath of the attack, security was heightened across Islamabad, particularly around government offices, diplomatic missions, and major roads. Police checkpoints have been established at key entry points, and authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant.
While no group has claimed responsibility so far, Tuesday’s attack marks one of the deadliest incidents in the capital in recent years, raising fresh concerns about the resurgence of militancy in Pakistan’s urban centers.
