Islamabad: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has submitted its annual report to the Ministry of Interior, detailing the total number of Pakistanis registered with the authority and other key statistics.

Key Registration Figures

In a video statement, NADRA spokesperson Shabahat Ali said that a total of 227 million citizens are registered with the authority, accounting for approximately 97% of the country’s total population. These numbers indicate that the vast majority of Pakistanis are officially recorded in the national database.

The spokesperson also highlighted that 31.9 million births were registered in the country’s Union Councils (UCs) last year. Regarding gender distribution among registered citizens, 48% are women and 52% are men.

Biometric Data Maintained by NADRA

NADRA maintains an extensive collection of biometric and identification records. According to the spokesperson, the authority holds facial recognition data for 170 million citizens, 1.68 billion fingerprints, and seven million retinal scans. These figures reflect the robustness and digital capacity of Pakistan’s national identification system.

Growth in Registration

The authority recorded an 11% overall increase in registrations over the past year. Birth registrations rose by 18%, while registrations of women increased by 8%. Currently, 938 NADRA registration centers operate across Pakistan. In 2025 alone, 75 new centers and 138 new counters were added to expand accessibility.

Role of Mobile Technology

NADRA’s mobile application, Pak ID, has taken on a growing role in citizen registration. The app now handles approximately 15% of NADRA’s registration workload, with over 12 million downloads to date, offering citizens a convenient digital platform for accessing services.

Conclusion

NADRA’s report demonstrates Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen citizen registration and secure national identification. The expansion of biometric records, registration centers, and digital services not only enhances convenience for citizens but also supports the development of a modern, secure, and efficient national database system.
