Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has welcomed the Asim Munir-Trump meeting, calling it a positive and strategic step forward in Pakistan-U.S. relations. According to Bilawal, the timing of this diplomatic engagement holds significant value, particularly in light of recent developments in the region.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Bilawal said, “Today, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump over a luncheon. This meeting is more than symbolic—it reflects a renewed momentum in bilateral ties between Islamabad and Washington.”
The Asim Munir-Trump meeting comes at a moment when global focus has turned to South Asia after a brief but intense five-day conflict between Pakistan and India. Bilawal emphasized that Pakistan emerged from this conflict with a decisive strategic advantage, but also with a clear understanding that peace remains the only viable long-term objective.
Bilawal further praised Donald Trump’s role as a mediator in brokering a temporary ceasefire, noting that his willingness to engage diplomatically demonstrates Washington’s renewed interest in maintaining regional balance. The meeting with Pakistan’s top military official signals not only military-to-military coordination but also a larger strategic dialogue between the two nations.
The former Foreign Minister lamented India’s response, stating that New Delhi has regrettably dismissed peace efforts, including those driven by American diplomacy. He criticized India’s continued militarization of disputes, including its controversial water policies and its oppressive stance in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
Bilawal stated, “Pakistan neither seeks confrontation nor avoids dialogue. We recognize that durable peace serves the interest of both Pakistan and India.”
He added that there is no military solution to the outstanding disputes between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. “India’s decision to weaponize water resources and politicize terrorism is deeply concerning and unacceptable,” he asserted.
Commenting further, Bilawal said the way forward must be paved through honest diplomacy, not delay or denial. He emphasized the importance of engagements like the Asim Munir-Trump meeting in shaping future policies, building confidence, and reducing mistrust between key regional and global players.
The meeting, he concluded, is a strong signal that Pakistan is ready to play its part on the international diplomatic front and expects its regional counterparts to do the same.
