Dhaka: A Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed in the capital city Dhaka on Monday afternoon, killing one person and injuring four others. The incident occurred when the aircraft, identified as an F-7 BGI, went down during a routine training flight.
According to Bangladeshi media, the crash happened at 1:06 PM local time in the densely populated Uttara area of Dhaka. The jet lost control due to a sudden technical malfunction and crashed into a college building, causing a massive fire and severe structural damage.
Emergency responders reached the site promptly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Several fire engines were dispatched to control the blaze, which had engulfed parts of the building.
The Bangladesh military confirmed the crash and stated that the aircraft was conducting a routine exercise at the time. However, no official update has been given regarding the condition of the pilot or any additional casualties.
Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion at the time of impact, which sent shockwaves through the surrounding residential areas and created panic among residents.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
It’s worth noting that Bangladesh Air Force’s F-7 jets are Chinese-built aircraft that have been in service for several years, primarily for training and defense exercises. Similar incidents involving these jets have been reported in the past, prompting aviation experts to call for technical upgrades and review of pilot training protocols.
