Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Business Leaders for Detailed Briefing on Economy

Led by Gohar Ejaz, business delegation discusses economic reforms, interest rates, and export-driven policies in high-level meeting

Rawalpindi: Prominent business figures from across Pakistan met with Field Marshal General Asim Munir to receive a detailed briefing on the state of the national economy and to present their recommendations for economic reforms.

According to sources, the meeting was led by former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz, and included key representatives such as APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad, S.M. Tanveer, presidents of FPCCI and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce, along with other influential business leaders.

The discussion focused on the current economic landscape, continuity in policies, and improving the overall business environment. Gohar Ejaz, speaking to the media after the meeting, stated that the delegation briefed Field Marshal Asim Munir on pressing economic matters and shared proposals from the business community aimed at stabilizing and reforming the economy.

He noted that signs of economic stability are emerging, and the business sector supports the government’s economic direction. However, he emphasized the need to further promote ease of doing business, attract investment, and create more employment opportunities.

Ejaz also stressed that the interest rate should be aligned with inflation, and that the federal budget must address key concerns of the business community. He highlighted the shift toward an export-led economic model, urging that the commitments made in the budget speech be translated into action.

Moreover, he emphasized the importance of supporting the domestic cotton industry and farmers, in order to ensure a balanced approach to both agricultural and industrial development.

It is worth noting that the business community has, in the past, engaged in similar high-level discussions with the military leadership to foster trust between the public and private sectors and to promote transparency in economic policymaking.
