Floods in Punjab: Death Toll Reaches 43, Over 3.3 Million People Affected

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has released a report detailing the damages caused by recent floods in rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab.

According to the Relief Commissioner Punjab, 43 people have drowned so far due to the floods. Over 3,300 villages and localities have been affected due to the worsening flood situation in these rivers.

In total, approximately 3.36 million people have been impacted by the floods, while around 1.29 million trapped individuals have been relocated to safer areas.

A total of 405 relief camps and 425 medical camps have been established in the severely affected districts.

To provide veterinary care, 385 veterinary camps have been set up, and nearly 799,000 animals have been moved to safer locations.

Mangla Dam is currently 83% full, while Tarbela Dam has reached 100% capacity. On the Indian side, the Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River is 84% full, Pong Dam 98%, and Thein Dam 92%.

Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed stated that, under the directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister, efforts will be made to compensate for the losses suffered by citizens and farmers.

According to PDMA spokesperson, monsoon rains were recorded in most districts of Punjab in the last 24 hours, including Sialkot (101 mm), Gujranwala (59 mm), Gujrat (48 mm), Narowal (41 mm), Lahore (14 mm), Murree (12 mm), Mandi Bahauddin (4 mm), Hafizabad (2 mm), and Faisalabad (1 mm).

Monsoon rains are expected to continue in most districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours.
