Irish actor Michael Patrick, known for his role in Game of Thrones, has tragically passed away at the age of 35. His wife, Naomi, confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday, April 8, revealing that he spent his final ten days in hospice care.
“He passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends,” she wrote. “Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”
Battle With Motor Neuron Disease
Patrick had been living with Motor Neuron Disease since February 2023, a progressive condition that gradually weakens muscles and can severely impact mobility and daily life. Despite the diagnosis, those close to him insist that illness never defined who he was.
Naomi described him as “an inspiration… joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter. A titan of a ginger-haired man.” Her words capture the essence of Patrick’s vibrant personality and his impact on friends, family, and colleagues.
Personal Decisions During Illness
In December 2023, Patrick and his wife launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund a tracheostomy procedure. By February, however, he made the personal decision to step away from the procedure. He explained that due to staffing shortages at medical facilities, the recovery period would have kept him in care for six to twelve months.

Doctors had given him roughly a year to live, but Patrick chose to prioritize how he spent that time. “I’m still overwhelmed by all your generosity… Anyway – still lots to live for and lots planned,” he wrote, demonstrating his determination to live fully despite the illness.
Legacy and Remembrance
Michael Patrick’s passing has left a deep impact on fans and colleagues alike. Though his time was tragically cut short, his life is remembered not only for his on-screen roles but for his warmth, laughter, and the inspiration he brought to those around him. His courage in facing a debilitating disease, while maintaining joy and purpose, leaves a lasting legacy.
