U.S. Announces Billions in Aid for Israeli Group Supporting Palestinians
The United States has approved a substantial funding package for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a controversial Israeli group tasked with distributing aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, U.S. officials have confirmed direct funding of $30 million for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told reporters, “We call on other nations to support GHF and its humanitarian mission.”
However, the move has sparked widespread criticism. The group has come under fire following numerous incidents where Israeli soldiers allegedly opened fire at aid distribution centers, killing hundreds of Palestinians. These incidents have raised questions about Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s involvement and operations in the region.
It is worth noting that GHF was established after Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza, restricting the entry of humanitarian aid. The group is reportedly coordinating aid deliveries with armed private American security personnel and Israeli soldiers—an approach that international organizations and the United Nations have strongly condemned as a violation of basic humanitarian principles.
Several video clips have surfaced showing Palestinian civilians being shot at while gathering for aid. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 549 Palestinians have been killed so far in shootings near aid centers.
Despite the growing criticism, GHF has denied any connection to these incidents near its aid facilities. Following the U.S. approval of the $30 million funding, GHF’s interim Executive Director John Acree stated, “This is a time for unity and cooperation. We welcome other humanitarian organizations to join us in feeding the people of Gaza together.”
