The federal government of Pakistan has officially announced public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr 2026, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, as holidays for government offices and institutions observing both five- and six-day working weeks.

Likely Date of Eid

Experts predict that Eid ul Fitr will fall on March 21, 2026, following the completion of 30 days of Ramadan. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) stated that the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to be born on March 19 at 06:23 PST.

At sunset on March 19, the moon’s age is estimated at 12 hours and 41 minutes, with a 28-minute interval between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal belt. However, Suparco emphasized that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision on the sighting of the crescent and the official commencement of Eid across the country.

Pakistan Railways Eid Arrangements

To facilitate the increased travel during the festive period, Pakistan Railways has announced the operation of four special Eid trains:

  • Lahore to Karachi – March 16
  • Quetta to Rawalpindi – March 17
  • Karachi to Peshawar – March 17
  • Karachi to Lahore – March 18

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said that the special train services are aimed at ensuring safe, timely, and convenient travel for passengers during the busy holiday period, highlighting the department’s commitment to public service during festive seasons.

Pakistani citizens are advised to stay updated with official announcements regarding the moon sighting, as the final dates of Eid ul Fitr will be confirmed by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Meanwhile, preparations across transportation and public services continue to ensure a smooth and joyful celebration for all.
