Heavy Rains Forecast Across Pakistan, Flood and Landslide Alerts Issued

Severe Weather Expected Until July 25; NDMA and PDMA on High Alert Nationwide

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in various parts of the country until July 25. In light of the expected weather conditions, alerts have been issued for potential flash floods and landslides in multiple regions.

According to the department, intermittent rain spells are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Jhang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Chakwal, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, and other areas of the Pothohar region. Low-lying areas are at risk of waterlogging, and local streams may swell dangerously.

Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northern Balochistan are also likely to experience heavy downpours, with some areas expected to face torrential rains. There is also a risk of landslides in hilly and mountainous terrain.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts like Chitral, Swat, Dir, Mansehra, Buner, Shangla, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, and Waziristan may see rising water levels in rivers like Kabul, Swat, Kalpani Nala, and Bara Nala due to heavy rainfall.

Southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, is also expected to receive rainfall, with a risk of flash floods in local water channels.

In Sindh, cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and Dadu are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Meanwhile, in Balochistan, heavy rains are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Khuzdar, Sibi, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, and Loralai.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) have placed all relevant departments on high alert. According to Punjab PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, provincial administrations have been instructed to prepare for any possible flood situations, with emergency measures already in place for vulnerable areas.

The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rain, exercise caution in mountainous regions due to the risk of landslides, and contact authorities in case of emergencies.
