A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is an HBO fantasy drama based on the “Dunk and Egg” novellas by George R. R. Martin. Set roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series explores the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (known as Dunk), a humble hedge knight, and his young squire Egg — who is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen.

The first season premiered on HBO and HBO Max on January 18 and has followed a weekly Sunday release schedule.

How Many Episodes Are in Season 1?

Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms consists of six episodes. The episodes were released as follows:

  • Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight”: January 18
  • Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef”: January 25
  • Episode 3 – “The Squire”: February 1
  • Episode 4 – “Seven”: February 8
  • Episode 5 – “In the Name of the Mother”: February 15
  • Episode 6 – “The Morrow”: February 22

Notably, there is no Episode 7, as the first season was intentionally designed as a compact six-episode arc.

Will There Be a Season 2?

Yes. HBO has officially renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season, which is expected to premiere in 2027.

Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella written by George R. R. Martin. According to showrunner Ira Parker, the structure of the next season will remain similar in scale.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Parker explained that Season 2 will also consist of six episodes. He noted that while the budget has technically remained the same, inflation has increased production costs. “I think the scope will be the same, maybe even smaller,” he said.
