Court Steps In Amid Suspicion
A Karachi court has directed police to register a murder case in connection with the mysterious death of actress Humaira Asghar. The order came during a hearing on a petition filed by Advocate Shahzaib Sohail at the South District and Sessions Court.
The judge ruled that police are legally bound under Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to file a case if evidence of murder emerges. The court also instructed investigators to formally record the statements of Asghar’s family and to ensure all legal requirements are met.
This judicial intervention comes after months of uncertainty, during which police had only classified the case as “under investigation” pending forensic analysis.
Postmortem Completed, Forensic Report Pending
According to a police report presented in court, Humaira Asghar’s postmortem has been completed. However, investigators say a final opinion on the cause of death cannot be given until forensic results are received.
Police confirmed that they have already contacted the actress’s relatives, but acknowledged that only limited progress could be made until laboratory findings are available.

In addition, the police report mentioned traces of blood found in both the bathroom and bedroom of her flat in Karachi’s Defence area. This, the lawyer argued, points directly toward a violent struggle rather than natural or accidental causes.
He also urged the court to include Humaira’s makeup artist in the investigation. The lawyer noted that the artist’s phone number was switched off during crucial days, further fueling suspicion.
Family Seeks Wider Investigation
Humaira Asghar’s family has also demanded a broader inquiry, including testimony from her brother and close associates. They insist that the circumstances of her death are inconsistent with natural causes and must be treated as a potential homicide.
The court accepted these arguments and ordered that all relevant witnesses be questioned. The inclusion of the makeup artist and family members is expected to expand the scope of the inquiry.
Police Maintain Caution
The investigating officer told the court that if conclusive evidence of murder emerges, the police will themselves register the case without hesitation. For now, both the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Karachi’s Gizri police station have been made parties to the proceedings.
This cautious approach reflects standard police procedure in Pakistan, where registering a murder case without strong evidence can create complications in court later.
