Mumbai: The Indian cricket team has been rewarded with a massive bonus of INR 1.31 billion ($14.24 million) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following their historic victory at the T20 World Cup. This sum is six times the official prize money they received for lifting the title in Ahmedabad.
India claimed their third men’s T20 World Cup crown with a dominant 96-run win over New Zealand in the final on Sunday, a one-sided match that showcased the team’s depth and skill. The official tournament prize for the victory was $2.34 million, but the BCCI announced the additional bonus to recognize the team’s exceptional achievement.
Record-Breaking Bonus
The bonus of $14.24 million is approximately $3 million higher than the tournament’s total prize pool of $11.25 million, making it one of the largest cash rewards in cricket history. The BCCI described the award as a token of appreciation for the players, coaching staff, and selectors.
In a statement, the BCCI said:
“The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.”
This is not the first time the BCCI has handed out large bonuses for international cricket success. Last year, the Indian team that won the Champions Trophy received a $6.72 million cash bonus, which was nearly triple the official prize money of $2.24 million.

Future Goals
With India now crowned three-time T20 World Cup champions, captain Suryakumar Yadav highlighted the team’s next big target: winning a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He emphasized that the squad remains focused on continuing their winning momentum and achieving new milestones on the global stage.
Significance of the Win
The historic T20 World Cup victory reinforces India’s dominance in the shortest format of cricket. The win not only boosts morale ahead of future international tournaments but also sets a precedent for the BCCI’s substantial support and incentives for players excelling on the world stage.
