An Iranian missile strike on the Weizmann Institute of Science has reportedly set Israeli scientific progress back by nearly a decade, with some research projects now deemed impossible to restart.
According to Reuters, the June 15 attack directly hit two research buildings at the prestigious institute, while several surrounding labs and facilities sustained heavy damage.
Roi Ozery, the institute’s Vice President of Development and Communications, stated that although there were no casualties, the Iranian missile strike on the Weizmann Institute led to the total loss of numerous scientific samples and valuable experimental material.
Renowned scientist Elad Tzahor said:
“Some experiments took over six months of hard work — it’s all turned to ash. Some research can never be recreated.”
Drone footage released by the Israeli military shows destroyed buildings, burned laboratories, and shattered research equipment, further confirming the severity of the damage.
According to Iran’s state-run Press TV, citing the Israeli financial news outlet Calcalist, the Iran missile strike on Weizmann Institute caused financial losses of approximately $572 million.
