Ishaq Dar Meets US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington

Kashmir Issue, Counterterrorism, and Bilateral Ties Top the Agenda

Washington: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington for a comprehensive discussion on a range of key issues including the Kashmir dispute, bilateral trade, counterterrorism, and regional and global affairs.

The meeting, held at the US State Department, lasted approximately 40 minutes and was described by Ishaq Dar as a “very good meeting.”

According to the Foreign Office, both leaders agreed on strengthening the long-term Pakistan-US partnership, enhancing economic and trade ties, and boosting security cooperation. Ishaq Dar emphasized the need to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

They also discussed the situations in Iran, Afghanistan, and Gaza. Ishaq Dar appreciated the constructive role played by the United States in the recent Pakistan-India ceasefire, calling it commendable.

Highlighting Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, the Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan is playing a frontline role and that cooperation with the US will bring peace and stability to the region.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Pakistan’s efforts in counterterrorism, rare minerals cooperation, and regional stability. He also confirmed that a Counterterrorism Dialogue will be held in Islamabad this August.

Following the meeting, Ishaq Dar departed for New York, where he will participate in a joint Saudi-French conference on Palestine.
