Bomber Traveled from Bajaur
Investigative agencies have released a preliminary report on the suicide attack near the G-11 sector courthouse in Islamabad. According to the report, the attacker was a resident of Bajaur, a tribal district in northwest Pakistan. He reportedly traveled to Islamabad on Friday ahead of the attack.
Authorities say he used a motorcycle to approach the courthouse, covering himself with a chadar (cloak). Upon reaching near his vehicle close to the court, he detonated explosives, causing a devastating blast.
Casualties and Damage
The explosion claimed the lives of 12 people and injured several others, according to police reports. Witnesses described the intense blast, which set nearby vehicles on fire. Reports also mention that fragments of the bomber were thrown inside the courthouse due to the force of the explosion.
The attack occurred around 12:30 pm on Tuesday, and its sound reportedly echoed across nearby neighborhoods, alarming residents and passersby.
Security Response and Investigation
Following the attack, law enforcement sealed off the area and initiated an extensive investigation. Police and forensic teams collected evidence from the blast site to trace the bomber’s network and motives. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attacker had any affiliations with militant groups, though further investigation is ongoing.
This incident adds to Pakistan’s growing concern over targeted attacks on judicial institutions. Security analysts note that courts, often handling terrorism-related cases, remain vulnerable to such assaults, highlighting the need for increased protective measures.
Public Reaction
The blast has sparked widespread concern across Islamabad, with citizens calling for tighter security around government buildings. Officials have assured the public that all leads are being pursued to prevent similar attacks in the future.
The investigation continues as authorities work to identify any accomplices or wider networks linked to the bomber.
