Hundreds of Israeli reserve soldiers have refused to report for duty, declaring the planned military operation to occupy Gaza City as illegal.
According to Israeli media, the reservists held a press conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, where they stated they do not consider Prime Minister Netanyahu’s war to be legitimate and have decided not to take part in it.
The soldiers announced, “We are over 365 in number, and the count is continuously growing. We have previously served in this war, but we now declare that if recalled, we will not report for duty.”
The reservists argued that the occupation of Gaza would endanger the lives of hostages, soldiers, and civilians. They described the move as a political maneuver by a government trying to prolong the war to ensure its own survival.
“We consider our refusal a patriotic duty and demand answers from our leaders,” the soldiers stated.
It is worth noting that the Israeli military has called up 10,000 reserve soldiers for the planned occupation of Gaza City.
