Karachi: A domestic worker, dubbed the “award-winning millionaire maid,” has been arrested in Karachi’s upscale Defence area for allegedly drugging her employer with sedative-laced green tea and stealing cash, gold jewelry, and other valuables worth millions of rupees.
The arrested suspect, identified as Mehreen, has been revealed as a professional thief involved in dozens of similar thefts across Pakistan, including major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. According to the police, at least 25 cases have been registered against her in Lahore alone.
Police officials reported that Mehreen was apprehended within the jurisdiction of the Ferozabad Police Station. During initial investigations, it was discovered that she had been operating this criminal scheme since 2017 and had served multiple prison terms.
Shockingly, while serving time in Adiala Jail in Islamabad, Mehreen received an award from then Prime Minister Imran Khan for her sewing skills — a recognition that added an ironic twist to her criminal history.
Mehreen allegedly used fake identities to gain employment in various households. The latest theft case in Defence was registered in December 2024. After using modern technical surveillance methods, police successfully traced and arrested her. The victim, Shaukat Mehmood, and his family identified her during the investigation.
Further inquiry revealed that the suspect had stolen valuables worth crores of rupees from homes in Clifton, Gizri, and District East. Authorities have confirmed that interrogation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate her possible accomplices.
