Real Madrid’s star footballer Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalized due to health issues, dealing a major blow to the team at the very start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
According to international media reports, Mbappé was unavailable for selection as Real Madrid kicked off their Club World Cup campaign, due to a sudden illness.
The Spanish club has confirmed that Mbappé was admitted to the hospital with a severe case of gastroenteritis—a condition caused by intestinal infection that often results in diarrhea and sometimes vomiting.
The World Cup winner was unable to play in Wednesday’s match against Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal in Miami due to a fever.
Coach Xabi Alonso stated that he hopes Mbappé will be fit to play in the team’s next match on Sunday against Pachuca. However, his hospitalization raises concerns over his availability for the remainder of the month-long tournament in the United States.
