Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have tightened security measures ahead of Muharram to ensure law and order across the province.
Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, stated while speaking to the media that this year, mourning processions will be monitored via drones to enable an immediate response to any suspicious activity.
According to the IG, the KP Police will receive thermal drones this week. These drones are capable of monitoring movements both during the day and at night. They will be deployed to provide aerial surveillance of mourning processions, central locations, and sensitive areas—helping to preemptively thwart any acts of terrorism or sabotage.
The police have also acquired advanced anti-drone technology, allowing them to detect and neutralize unauthorized or suspicious drones. In addition, the KP Police are being equipped with modern short machine guns this week, while non-functional Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) have been fully repaired and restored.
The IG added that APCs will be deployed in sensitive districts and will play a key role in procession security. The primary goal of all these measures is to provide a safe environment for citizens during Muharram, ensuring that gatherings for mourning can take place without disruption.
It is worth noting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is considered a sensitive region in terms of security, and foolproof arrangements during Muharram have always remained a top priority.
