Strengthening Defence and Strategic Links
Pakistan and Egypt have renewed their pledge to expand defence and strategic cooperation during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir met Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty for detailed discussions on military ties and regional developments.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting covered a wide range of topics. These included defence cooperation, military training, strategic coordination, and shared efforts to promote stability in their respective regions.
Pakistan and Egypt have maintained defence relations for several decades. Officers from both armed forces train in each other’s institutions, and military delegations visit regularly. These interactions have helped both sides build trust and improve professional understanding.
Cairo Signals Strong Interest in Broader Engagement
Dr. Abdelatty conveyed greetings from Egypt’s leadership and expressed Cairo’s desire to deepen cooperation with Pakistan. He noted that Egypt values its ties with Islamabad and sees Pakistan as an important regional partner.
He added that Egypt wishes to expand collaboration across defence, diplomacy, security, and strategic planning. Cairo believes that closer engagement can help both countries respond to complex challenges. Egypt remains one of the most capable militaries in the Arab world, while Pakistan is a significant security actor in South Asia.
Both sides agreed that stronger defence relations would benefit not only their armed forces but also their wider national interests.
Reviewing a Changing Regional Landscape
The meeting also focused on the rapidly shifting security environment in the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa. Officials discussed the growing strain caused by conflicts, economic pressures, and new geopolitical rivalries.
They agreed that the regional landscape has become more unpredictable. Pakistan’s defence industry has grown steadily in recent years, while Egypt continues to modernise its own military capabilities.
