Disappointment and Dismay After Supreme Court Verdict: PTI Chairman

Reserved seats denied, mandate stolen — Barrister Gohar criticizes Supreme Court and Election Commission

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar has expressed deep disappointment and sorrow over the recent Supreme Court verdict.

While addressing a press conference alongside Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz and Kanwal Shauzab, he stated that the decision of the Supreme Court is a source of grief and disappointment. He noted that the notifications of 39 candidates were not challenged by anyone.

He added, “We were hopeful that the reserved seats would be allotted to us. Instead, our seats were taken away and handed over to mandate thieves. If the full bench of the Supreme Court had reviewed the matter, we wouldn’t have objected.”

Barrister Gohar said that the decision regarding the 26th constitutional amendment should have been taken first. “Never in the history of legal or constitutional interpretation have we seen a verdict by 13 judges overturned by just 7. PTI contested elections in 859 constituencies, and on February 15, our independent candidates were notified.”

He further stated, “We promptly submitted the documents regarding joining the Sunni Ittehad in the Election Commission. But on February 22, the Election Commission ignored the 78 seats that were supposed to be allotted to us and instead distributed them among other parties. These seats could have remained vacant. This time, parties received more seats than those they actually won.”

Barrister Gohar added, “We went to the Election Commission, and the notification of our MNAs was issued — that notification is still intact today. No one should think that following the court’s decision, PTI candidates are now independent. They are still part of the Sunni Ittehad. After the Supreme Court’s stay order, the Election Commission had halted its process.”

The PTI Chairman demanded that the Election Commission immediately issue the remaining notifications for other provinces. “We are only asking for the reserved seats that are rightfully ours and have not been given. We are deeply disappointed by the judiciary. Seeking justice in Pakistan has never been as difficult as it is today. People have been subjected to injustice. We are deeply saddened. Please don’t cross all limits in your hatred against PTI.”
