Islamabad: The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has temporarily suspended the six-month prison sentence of four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers convicted under the Public Order Act, granting them 30 days to file an appeal.
The case was heard by Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas, where the convicts—Danish, Essa, Ejaz, and Muhammad Essa—were represented by lawyers Sardar Masroof, Amna Ali, and Zahid Dar. The defense argued that the accused were targeted on political grounds and that due process was not followed during the trial.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered a temporary suspension of the sentences and directed the individuals to file an appeal within 30 days. The court further instructed that the matter should proceed legally through proper channels.
The four PTI workers had been sentenced to six months in prison in a case registered at Tarnol Police Station. They were charged with disturbing public order, participating in protests, and obstructing official duties.
Following the court’s decision, PTI circles expressed partial relief. Party leaders stated that the individuals were targeted solely due to their political affiliation, and they hope that justice will ultimately prevail through the ongoing legal proceedings.
This development, along with recent internal unification moves—such as PTI Unity Prevails: Four Candidates Withdraw from KP Senate Race, indicates a broader consolidation within the party and a possible shift in political momentum.
It is worth noting that dozens of PTI workers and leaders have faced various legal cases following the violent events of May 9, 2023. This recent development suggests that judicial review of politically sensitive cases is underway, with more significant legal decisions expected in the coming days.
