Ten members of the Punjab Assembly have been fined over vandalism charges during a recent session.
According to the official notification, each member has been fined Rs 203,550 for damaging government property. If the fine is not paid within seven days, further action will be taken against the defaulters.
The notification stated that the decision was based on evidence gathered from video footage of the June 16 session.
Those fined include Chaudhry Javed Kausar, Asad Abbas, Muhammad Tanveer Aslam, Syed Raffat Mehmood, Muhammad Ismail, and Shehbaz Ahmed.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, 26 opposition members were suspended for 15 sessions for violating the Speaker’s ruling.
Regarding the matter, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said that action was taken over disruptive behavior in the House, including chanting slogans, pushing, and tearing official documents. He emphasized that the sanctity and discipline of the assembly must be upheld at all costs.
He added that while the right to protest is respected, it must remain within the bounds of the Constitution, law, and procedural rules.
