Punjab Raises Daily Wage Rates for Workers Across the Province

The provincial government announces a significant pay increase for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labourers to ease inflation pressures.

Wage Increase Announced for Daily Wage Workers

The Punjab government has announced a substantial increase in the wages of daily wage workers across the province. The decision aims to provide much-needed financial relief to the working class amid persistent inflation and rising living costs.

According to an official notification issued by the Assistant Commissioner (Human Resources), the revised wage structure applies to skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labourers working under various departments and contractors.

New Wage Structure

Under the new notification:

  • Skilled workers will receive an additional PKR 1,975 per day, bringing their monthly wage to PKR 45,945.

  • Semi-skilled workers will see an increase of PKR 1,558 per day, with their new monthly salary set at PKR 43,108.

  • Unskilled workers will earn PKR 1,538 more per day, raising their monthly wage to PKR 40,000.

The revised pay rates are expected to take effect immediately and will apply across public and semi-government institutions that employ workers on daily wages.

Relief Amid Soaring Inflation

This initiative is being widely welcomed as a positive step toward easing the financial burden on thousands of families in Punjab. Over the past year, Pakistan’s inflation rate has fluctuated between 20% and 25%, with food and energy prices particularly affected.

Labour unions and workers’ representatives have long demanded wage adjustments to keep pace with the rising cost of living. Analysts say the decision could help improve worker morale and stimulate local economic activity, though its long-term impact will depend on enforcement and timely payments.
