Government Approval for New Park Project
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a dedicated Ladies and Children’s Park in Tanda, a town in the Gujrat district of Pakistan. The decision follows a formal proposal submitted by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gujrat, Noorul Ain, who emphasized the need for safe recreational spaces for women and young children in the area.
The announcement has been welcomed by local officials, community leaders, and residents, who say the project addresses a longstanding gap in family-friendly public facilities.
Inspection of Proposed Site
A team led by DC Noorul Ain visited the proposed site earlier today. She was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning) Zulfiqar Ahmed, representatives of the District Council, and other relevant officials.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed the initial layout, design concepts, and the list of planned amenities.
Officials stated that the final blueprint is being refined to ensure the park meets modern standards. They also noted that safety, accessibility, and sustainability will remain key priorities during the planning phase.
Tender Process to Begin Soon
According to district administration officials, the tender for the project will be issued soon. After the bidding process concludes, construction will begin in multiple phases.
Authorities expect the phased approach to help maintain quality control and minimize potential delays.
Parks and public recreation areas in Punjab typically take between 6 to 12 months to build, depending on size and available resources. Local officials have not yet given an exact completion timeline, but they expressed confidence that the project will progress smoothly.
Planned Facilities for Families
The upcoming Ladies and Children’s Park is expected to include:
-
Separate recreational zones for women and children
-
Safe play areas equipped with age-appropriate structures
-
Walking and jogging tracks
-
Green lawns and shaded seating areas
-
Basic facilities, including clean washrooms and drinking water stations
-
Security features, such as boundary fencing and CCTV surveillance
Officials said the space will be designed to encourage physical activity, social interaction, and family outings, especially for households with limited access to recreational options.
Addressing a Community Need
The Gujrat district has seen rapid population growth in recent years. Yet, public parks—particularly those catering to women and families—remain limited.
Many women in smaller towns like Tanda often avoid mixed-gender public spaces due to cultural sensitivities or safety concerns.
In her proposal, DC Noorul Ain highlighted these barriers. She noted that the park would not only provide a safe and healthy environment but also support the government’s broader goals of promoting well-being, social inclusion, and community engagement.
Women-Centric Development Under the Spotlight
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has recently emphasized several women-focused development projects across Punjab. These range from health programs to vocational training initiatives.
The approval of the Ladies and Children’s Park in Tanda aligns with her administration’s commitment to creating inclusive public infrastructure.
Local observers believe this initiative reflects a shift toward more community-centered planning in smaller towns, not just major cities like Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Public Response and Future Expectations
Residents of Tanda and nearby areas have responded positively to the project announcement. Many say the new park will offer families a safe alternative to congested or poorly maintained open spaces.
The district administration has encouraged citizens to provide feedback once the detailed design is made public. Officials hope the park will become a central attraction for families and a model for future community spaces across the region.
