Tragedy Strikes Rawalpindi: 3 Dead Including 5-Year-Old Amid Devastating Monsoon Floods

Torrential rains wreak havoc across Rawalpindi and Islamabad; emergency declared as floodwaters rise

Rawalpindi: The bodies of three individuals, including a 5-year-old boy, have been recovered after being swept away by flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains in various parts of Rawalpindi. This brings the total number of monsoon-related deaths in the region to six.

According to rescue officials, the young child drowned in the drain near Saddar Bhosa Mandi, while in another tragic incident, a young man slipped and was carried away by floodwaters in the Dhamial area. Rescue teams immediately launched a search operation, which was paused due to darkness but resumed at dawn, leading to the recovery of the bodies.

The intense rainfall has severely affected Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with a staggering 260mm of rain disrupting daily life. The water level in Nullah Lai surged to a dangerous 21 feet, causing floodwaters to enter nearby homes.

Streets and alleys turned into ponds, vehicles were seen floating in the water, and citizens had to resort to wooden planks and makeshift rafts to reach safety. The Srinagar Highway was overwhelmed by floodwaters, and a key road segment in Murree collapsed due to a landslide.

In light of the worsening situation, local authorities have declared a flood emergency and alerted all relevant departments to remain on high alert to prevent further loss of life and property.
