Arrests Follow Viral Video
Rawalpindi police arrested three men for abducting, assaulting, and forcibly cutting a teenage girl’s hair. A video of the attack went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and demands for immediate justice. Authorities continue searching for other suspects named in the case.
The footage shows several men forcing the girl’s hair to be cut while others recorded the act. Federal police first investigated the case, but they transferred it to Rawalpindi police after confirming the incident occurred in the city.
Swift Police Action
Chief Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani ordered prompt action and formed a special investigation team. Police traced the incident to Christian Colony, near Pani Wali Tanki.
Following a complaint filed by DFC Asad Hussain, police registered a case under sections 337(V) and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Suspects and Victim Details
The victim, Iman Fatima, daughter of Muhammad Ibrahim, identified three suspects already arrested: Nazar Khan (also known as Arman), Muhammad Anis (also known as Durrani), and Jaleel Khan (also known as Mithu). Police named additional suspects, including Jabbar Khan and several unidentified individuals. These people reportedly cut the girl’s hair and shared the video on social media.
Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Haider leads the investigation. Police conducted late-night raids to apprehend the three men and continue searching for the remaining suspects.
Victim’s Allegations
In a recorded statement, Iman Fatima accused four to five boys and four girls, including a girl named Sana, of mistreating her. She said the attackers forced her hair to be cut and humiliated her on camera. Authorities have treated the case with urgency due to its severity.
Police Statement
CPO Khalid Hamdani strongly condemned the assault. He said authorities will not tolerate violence, coercion, or exploitation against women. Hamdani promised that the police would bring all perpetrators to justice.
This type of violence cannot happen in our society, he said. We will ensure the victim receives full justice.
Social Media Reaction and Context
The video spread rapidly on social media, igniting debates about the safety of women and girls in Pakistan. Users criticized not only the attackers but also the societal conditions that allow such incidents to happen.
Experts warn that gender-based harassment and public humiliation, such as forced hair-cutting, remain significant problems. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reports that thousands of women face abuse each year, while many cases remain unreported due to social stigma or fear of retaliation.
Ongoing Investigation
Rawalpindi police have urged the public to share any information about the incident or suspects. They said investigators are following all leads to locate the remaining perpetrators. Women’s rights organizations have called for stronger protections for minors and stricter enforcement against harassment and assault.
Police continue their investigation while ensuring the victim receives proper support and protection. Officials emphasize that they will prosecute all individuals involved and provide a transparent, swift legal process.
