Hope Restored: Injured Camel in Sanghar Walks Again with US-Made Prosthetic Leg

One Year After Brutal Attack, Camel Receives Artificial Limb with Help from Local & International Support

In a heartwarming development from Sanghar, Sindh, a camel that had suffered a brutal act of violence a year ago has finally received a prosthetic leg — specially brought in from the United States. The injured camel is now able to walk again, bringing hope and joy to animal lovers across Pakistan.

PPP leader Shazia Atta Marri shared uplifting images of the camel on social media, showcasing the remarkable transformation and resilience of the animal. The prosthetic leg was custom-made and imported from the US to suit the camel’s needs.

It may be recalled that in June 2023, a landlord in Sanghar viciously attacked the camel after it wandered onto his land. In a shocking act of cruelty, he used a sharp tool to sever one of her legs. The camel was rescued in critical condition and transported to Karachi, where she was admitted to the animal welfare shelter, CDRS – Benji Project.

According to Sarah Jahangir, Director of the Benji Project, the camel arrived traumatized and in immense pain. Her recovery required patience, dedication, and expert care. The team worked tirelessly, and after months of rehabilitation, the specially designed prosthetic was successfully attached.

The shelter administration extended heartfelt thanks to their team, supporters, PPP MNA Shazia Marri, her sister Senator Qurat-ul-Ain Marri, and the Sindh Government for their unwavering support throughout the process.

The brutal act had sparked widespread outrage on social media, leading to the arrest of the culprit. This recovery not only marks a triumph for animal rights but also serves as a powerful reminder of growing public awareness and compassion in society.
