Medical Leave Following Dengue Diagnosis

Documents recently released reveal that Superintendent of Police (SP) Adil Akbar, who reportedly died by suicide, had submitted a medical leave request days before the incident. According to the medical report, Akbar tested positive for dengue fever.

Following his diagnosis, he visited Polyclinic Hospital on October 20 for a check-up and applied for three days of medical leave, which was subsequently approved by the Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Return to Duty and Overseas Plans

Sources indicate that SP Akbar resumed duty on October 23 after completing his medical leave. Police sources also stated that he had secured admission to a foreign university and had visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for verification of required documents. For more insights, a psychiatrist revealed details of his final meeting with SP Adil Akbar before his death.

These details suggest that he was actively engaged in professional and personal plans prior to his death, complicating initial assumptions about his mental state.

Circumstances Surrounding the Gun Incident

Police and security experts have noted that an accidental discharge of the SMG (submachine gun) cannot be ruled out. Preliminary investigations indicate the bullet trajectory was at a 65-degree angle, while PSP officers are generally not trained extensively in handling SMG firearms.

Authorities continue to investigate to determine whether the incident was accidental or intentional. The official probe aims to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether any procedural lapses contributed to the incident.

Ongoing Investigations

The Islamabad police have stressed that investigations are ongoing and are being conducted meticulously to ensure transparency. This includes reviewing medical records, duty schedules, and firearm handling protocols.

Experts emphasize that such inquiries are critical not only for accountability but also for strengthening safety measures among law enforcement personnel in high-stress roles.
