London: The United Kingdom has officially launched its E-Visa system for Pakistani students and professionals, streamlining the visa process and reducing the need for physical visa stickers on passports.
The new system came into effect on 15th July 2025 and introduces a digital immigration status, which stores all visa-related information—such as entry, stay duration, and conditions—securely online. This data can be accessed via the applicant’s UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account.
The E-Visa system aims to make the visa process easier, safer, and more efficient, while also allowing applicants to retain their passports during processing. According to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, this shift will simplify how individuals prove their immigration status and identity when needed.
Currently, the E-Visa is available for the following categories:
-
Students (including those enrolled in courses up to 11 months)
-
Global Business Mobility routes
-
Global Talent visa holders
-
International Sportspersons
-
Skilled Workers, including Health and Care Workers
-
Temporary Work categories, such as:
-
Charity workers
-
Creative workers
-
Government Authorised Exchange
-
Religious workers
-
-
Youth Mobility Scheme participants
However, applicants applying as dependents, or those whose visa categories are not yet covered, will still require a physical visa vignette (sticker). Those who already possess a physical visa do not need to take any further action.
Authorities have confirmed that the E-Visa system will soon expand to cover all visa types, making the entire UK visa process fully digital and integrated in the near future.
