Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has revealed that India’s former star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was willing to participate in a high-profile exhibition match against Pakistan in England. However, due to the egos and personal grudges of a few Indian players, the match was abruptly canceled.
The match was scheduled to take place in Leicester and was set to feature former cricketers from both Pakistan and India. All 17,000 tickets had been sold, and fans were eagerly looking forward to the nostalgic encounter. However, an unexpected boycott by certain Indian players forced the organizers to call off the event at the last moment.
In a recent interview, Afridi stated, “Yuvraj Singh was ready to play with us. He personally confirmed that he wanted to take the field against Pakistan. Unfortunately, a few Indian players refused to play due to personal egos and unnecessary politics.”
Afridi added that Yuvraj was disappointed with the situation and labeled some of his former teammates as “bad eggs” who only want to stir controversy. He emphasized that “cricket should be a medium of peace, friendship, and harmony—not a tool for hatred.“
The match’s cancellation left thousands of fans disheartened and caused significant logistical and financial losses for the organizers. On social media, fans expressed strong disappointment, calling for sports to be kept separate from politics.
It’s worth noting that cricketing ties between India and Pakistan have been frozen for several years, with the two sides only facing each other in ICC events or rare exhibition games. This makes every opportunity to witness an Indo-Pak clash a highly anticipated event among cricket fans.
