Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed cautious optimism that key issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme could be resolved in the next round of talks expected to take place in Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters in London, Fidan indicated that diplomatic momentum was building and suggested that upcoming discussions could be decisive if all parties engage constructively.
Pakistan Set to Host Next Phase of Talks
The remarks come amid ongoing international efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran, with Pakistan emerging as a central venue for negotiations.
The planned talks in Pakistan are expected to focus on long-standing concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities, sanctions, and regional security issues, following earlier rounds of discussions held under Pakistani mediation.
Possible Progress on Nuclear Dispute
Fidan said he believes there is a realistic chance that outstanding issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme could be addressed in the upcoming round. However, he also stressed that success would depend on continued diplomatic engagement and willingness from all sides to compromise.
The Turkish foreign minister did not provide specific details on the negotiation framework but emphasized that regional stability depends on sustained dialogue.

Support for Post-Agreement Maritime Operations
In addition to diplomatic comments, Fidan also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that Turkey could support international efforts to clear naval mines if a peace agreement is reached between Iran and the United States.
He said that a technical multinational team would likely be formed after any agreement to carry out demining operations in the waterway, which is considered critical for global energy transport.
Fidan described such operations as a humanitarian responsibility and said Turkey would have “no problem” participating under peaceful conditions.
Conditional Participation and Caution
However, he also added a note of caution, stating that Turkey would reassess its position if any multinational technical coalition became involved in renewed conflict. This reflects Ankara’s effort to maintain a balanced stance in a highly sensitive geopolitical environment.
Broader Diplomatic Context
The comments come as international stakeholders continue to push for de-escalation following months of heightened tensions in the Middle East. Several countries, including Pakistan and Turkey, have played supporting roles in facilitating dialogue and encouraging restraint.
While optimism is emerging from some diplomatic voices, the situation remains uncertain. The success of the upcoming talks in Pakistan will likely depend on broader political will and agreement on core issues such as nuclear oversight and regional security guarantees.
For now, attention is focused on whether the next round of negotiations can translate cautious optimism into tangible diplomatic progress.
