KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding ahead of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) as part of enhanced security measures, according to a notification issued on Thursday.
Chehlum will be observed on August 4 with religious devotion and strict security arrangements across the province.
Pillion riding banned across Sindh
The restriction has been imposed to maintain law and order during Chehlum processions, which are expected to draw large crowds in cities across Sindh.
The annual observance marks the 40th day of mourning after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, commemorated on the 20th of Safar-ul-Muzaffar.
As part of the observance, Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah processions will be taken out in various parts of the province under heightened security.
Section 144 extended for another month
In a separate notification, the Sindh Home Department also extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another month, effective August 1.
Karachi Traffic Plan Announced for Muharram Processions
Under the restrictions:
- Wall chalking remains prohibited.
- Public rallies and demonstrations are banned.
- Public display of weapons is not allowed.
- Only security guards employed by registered security companies may carry weapons while performing official duties.
Tight security arrangements
Authorities say the restrictions are aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing any untoward incidents during Chehlum gatherings and processions.
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to implement the security plan across the province, with additional personnel expected to be deployed along procession routes and other sensitive locations.
