Tom Cruise appears to have found an unexpected way to connect with Taylor Swift, but Hollywood insiders believe his new friendship with the pop superstar could offer benefits beyond football and socialising.
The 64-year-old Mission: Impossible star recently joined Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce at a Kansas City Chiefs game before appearing on the Kelce brothers’ podcast while promoting his upcoming movie Digger.
According to sources cited by Rob Shutter, Cruise’s growing association with the high-profile couple could also help generate attention for his film career.
“Tom knows exactly what he’s doing,” an insider claimed. “Taylor is the center of popular culture. Being in her orbit instantly puts Tom in front of a younger generation that knows his name but may not necessarily buy a ticket to his movies.”
Digger faces a different box-office challenge
The strategy could prove particularly significant when Digger arrives in October.
Unlike Cruise’s established blockbuster franchises, including Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, Digger is an original project. That makes its release a potentially bigger commercial gamble because it does not have the built-in audience of a major franchise sequel.

According to the source, Swift is also aware of the potential publicity benefits for both sides and apparently does not object to the attention surrounding their friendship.

The source also suggested that Cruise is fully aware of the enormous media attention surrounding Swift and Kelce.
“Tom doesn’t accidentally end up in the most photographed box in America,” the insider said. “He knows exactly where the cameras are — and right now, Taylor is the biggest camera magnet on earth.”
