The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s (NCCIA) investigation involving Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan has reportedly been delayed over what sources describe as a lack of cooperation from the cricketer.
The inquiry follows the seizure of Rizwan’s and Imam-ul-Haq’s mobile phones after Pakistan’s Test series against England. The investigation concerns allegations related to online betting and gambling in Pakistan cricket, as well as reports of possible leaks of information from the team’s dressing room.
No final findings or violations have been officially established against either player.
NCCIA seeks Rizwan’s cooperation
According to NCCIA sources, investigators have made several attempts to contact Rizwan and seek his cooperation. They said the cricketer was sometimes unavailable, while on other occasions he indicated that he would consult his lawyer before responding.
The agency plans to contact Rizwan again on Monday, the sources said. If he does not cooperate, the NCCIA may issue another notice and consider further legal action.
Investigators reportedly need Rizwan’s presence for the forensic examination of his mobile phone. Sources said alternative arrangements were possible, but warned that they could potentially result in the loss of data.
The agency had previously questioned Rizwan about several contacts, but some of his responses were reportedly considered unsatisfactory. Investigators believe forensic analysis of his phone is necessary to answer outstanding questions and address any concerns.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter involving Rizwan and Imam.
Imam cooperates with investigators
Imam-ul-Haq, who initially showed some hesitation, has since cooperated with investigators, according to the sources. The forensic examination of his mobile phone is now reportedly under way.
The NCCIA has stressed that the inquiry remains at an early stage and that nothing has so far been established against either cricketer.
Sources said the investigation began after certain material appeared suspicious during cyber patrolling, adding that all proceedings were being conducted in accordance with the law.

The agency also said its inquiry did not conflict with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct. According to the sources, neither the NCCIA nor the ICC has contacted the other regarding the investigation.
The agency has also offered to send its investigators to Rizwan if he is unable to visit its office.
According to NCCIA sources, the purpose of the investigation is to establish the facts and clear the players at the earliest if no violation is found.
Rizwan says fresh notice has not been received
Sources close to Rizwan said the cricketer has yet to receive a fresh notice from the NCCIA.
They said his initial notice was sent through WhatsApp and that Rizwan subsequently asked the agency several questions, including what allegations had been made against him, why he was being called and whether someone could accompany him.
According to the sources, Rizwan has not received a response to those questions.
They added that the cricketer is prepared to appear before the NCCIA once he receives a notice through the proper legal process.
The development comes as the agency continues its inquiry into allegations surrounding online betting, gambling and other suspected cyber-related activity linked to Pakistan cricket. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected after the forensic examination of the devices.
