LONDON/NEW YORK: Pakistani film actor Meera has been sent back to the United States after Canadian immigration authorities stopped her at the Niagara border and refused her entry into Canada, she told Geo News.

Meera, whose real name is Syeda Irtiza Rubab, was travelling from New York to Canada to attend a show when immigration officials stopped her and questioned her for several hours before returning her to the US.

The exact reason for the immigration action has not been disclosed.

Meera Says She Does Not Know Why She Was Sent Back

Speaking to Geo News, Meera said she was still trying to determine why Canadian authorities refused her entry.

“I still do not know why I was deported from Canada. I am trying to verify the facts,” she said.

According to the actor, immigration officials asked her basic questions before sending her back to the United States.

“I suspect someone may have made a malicious complaint against me,” Meera said.

The allegation has not been independently established, and no details have been publicly disclosed about any complaint that may have prompted the Canadian authorities’ decision.

Actor Had Previously Visited Canada

The latest incident comes after Meera had previously travelled to Calgary, where she promoted her film Psycho and performed on stage.

Her latest trip was reportedly linked to another show, but she was stopped at the Niagara border while travelling from New York.

Meera’s US Green Card allows her to reside in the United States, where she frequently travels for personal and professional engagements.

Meera Previously Faced UK Immigration Problems

The Canadian incident is not the first time Meera has encountered immigration difficulties abroad.

She was previously refused entry to the United Kingdom and was subjected to a 10-year entry ban by British immigration authorities.

Documents previously obtained by Geo News showed that Meera was refused entry and faced restrictions on her movement after being questioned by immigration officers at Heathrow Airport.

Her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, had claimed that the incident resulted from a misunderstanding during the immigration interview because Meera struggled to understand questions asked in English.

Visa Dispute Continued After UK Ban

Although the 10-year ban later expired, Meera continued to face difficulties obtaining a British visa.

A subsequent visa application was refused after her travel agent allegedly provided incorrect information. British authorities reportedly cited false representations in connection with the application.

In July 2025, Meera publicly appealed to the British government to grant her a visa so she could visit her sister, who was undergoing cancer treatment in London.

At the time, she said her family and home were in London and that she had been unable to visit them for several years because of the immigration dispute.

Meera’s latest encounter with Canadian immigration authorities has once again drawn attention to her previous immigration difficulties.

For now, the precise reason for Canada’s refusal to admit her remains unclear, while the actor says she is trying to establish what led to the decision.
