Governor Sindh Announces Plots, Rations for Lyari Tragedy Victims

Kamran Tessori Pledges 80-Yard Plots and Relief for Displaced Families After Building Collapse in Karachi

Karachi: Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori has announced the allocation of 80-yard residential plots to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent Lyari building collapse. He also pledged ration supplies for the families who have been left homeless by the tragic incident.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Governor Tessori described the incident as deeply tragic and emphasized that no political point-scoring should be done over such a catastrophe. He stated that the building collapsed suddenly, giving residents no time to react or escape.

The Governor confirmed that the Sindh government has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident, which he termed a positive step. He also revealed that the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority has been removed from office. However, he stressed that removing individuals is not enough—structural reforms in the entire system are necessary.

Kamran Tessori declared that families of the deceased will receive 80-yard plots, while food rations will be distributed to those who have lost their homes. “Those vacating dangerous buildings should contact us. We will not leave them alone,” he assured.

He criticized the provincial government for failing to complete development work in official housing schemes over the past 20 years. He pointed out that areas like Scheme 42 and Taiser Town have been neglected for decades, forcing citizens to live in substandard private constructions.

Tessori further stated that he will raise the issue in the Assembly and ensure that the people of Lyari are not forgotten. “They will receive every possible form of help and support,” he added.

It is worth noting that a few days ago, a dilapidated six-storey building in Lyari collapsed, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Read full details of the collapse here.
