Twist in Balochistan Double Murder Case: Bano’s Mother Sent to Jail

Controversial Statement on ‘Honor Killing’ Sparks Outrage, Prompts Legal Action

Balochistan: A major development has emerged in the high-profile double murder case in Daghari, Balochistan, as Gul Jan, the mother of the deceased Bano Bibi, has been sent to jail following the completion of her physical remand. The court ordered her detention after she made a controversial statement justifying her daughter’s killing under tribal customs.

According to reports from Quetta, Gul Jan’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings have added a serious twist to the case. In a video statement shared on social media, she defended the murder, calling it a “just punishment” delivered under the Balochi Jirga system. The statement received widespread public backlash and triggered condemnation from human rights groups nationwide.

Following her arrest, Gul Jan was presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which granted two days of physical remand. Upon its completion, the court ordered her transfer to prison.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that, under instructions from the Serious Crime Investigation Wing, forensic expert Dr. Ayesha Faiz collected DNA samples from Gul Jan — including blood, hair, and saliva — to support a scientific investigation into the murders.

The honor killing took place earlier this month in Daghari, where a man and a woman were brutally murdered. The case’s severity prompted the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court to take suo motu notice, summoning the Additional Chief Secretary for Home Affairs and the Inspector General of Police for a detailed briefing.

The case has ignited a nationwide debate over honor killings, tribal justice systems, and the rule of law in Balochistan. Human rights advocates argue that this case is not only a serious criminal matter but also a test for the legal and tribal structures that continue to coexist in the province.

Public outrage continues to mount as the controversial role of Gul Jan and her justification of the murder have deepened the complexity of the case, making it a focal point for both legal and human rights reform discussions.
