Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the Super Four stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, ICC Elite Panel umpire Aleem Dar has resigned from the national selection committee, citing undue interference in selection matters.
Reason for Resignation
Sources reveal that Dar stepped down due to extraordinary interference by head coach Mike Hesson and the silence of influential committee member Aaqib Javed. Dar claimed selectors had announced the best 20 players, but the captain and coach chose the wrong 15, followed by poor decisions in the playing XI, leaving selectors vulnerable to criticism.

Selection Disputes
During the tournament, Dar reportedly expressed reservations over including former captain Babar Azam and all-rounder Shadab Khan in the squad, citing lack of form and performance.
He also suggested wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan should bat at number six instead of Usman Khan, arguing that if underperforming stars were retained, Rizwan deserved another opportunity.
Dar reportedly criticized Captain Salman Ali Agha for not opposing these decisions and highlighted that coach Mike Hesson had the final say in all selections.
Principles Behind Resignation
Dar stated that he has been granted respect in cricket by Allah and did not wish to serve as a “puppet” in the selection process. His resignation is widely regarded as a principled stand against undue influence in national team decisions.
